The lovable, cabbit-brandishing Sasami is the pint-sized girl you see before you. Ironically enough, she happens is the second princess to the denizens on the planet of Jurai, from which she hails. Sasami has an older sister, Ayeka, and a half-brother in Yosho.
Yosho goes missing in his pursuit of the infamous space pirate Ryoko. Centuries later, Ayeka finally becomes worried enough to leave her home planet and, with guardians Azaka and Kamidate in tow, start on a quest to search for him. Sasami has no intention of being left behind, so she stows away on Ayeka's ship Ryu-Oh. Their pursual leads them to the planet Earth where they conveniently crash-land their ship into the middle of a pond outside Tenchi's house.
It wouldn't be enough to just say that this is a blessing in disguise. The search company from Jurai meets up with Tenchi (a direct descendant of Yosho) and begins its indefinite stay at his father's house =) Soon enough, Ryo-Oh-Ki the cabbit rears her cute head and becomes fast friends with Sasami.
Background aside, Sasami is an optimistic, resilient and whole-hearted member of the Tenchi cast.
She contributes alot to the series in terms of comic relief. Beneath her innocent, though mischievous, facade, we see a degree of maturity and level-headedness uncommon for a girl of her age. As well, she's a gosu cook. It's too bad that she doesn't have any special powers ...
On the plus side, Sasami does share a link with Tsunami. It's said that when Sasami grows up, she'll look exactly like her older counterpart.
