      Tenchi Masaki is the hero of this animated series. He is a regular teenage boy living a fairly normal life, learning to be a shrine-keeped under the tutelage of his grandfather Lord Katsuhito (Yosho).
      For the most part, he is shy, reserved and has had little experience with girls. Tenchi's mother, Achika, died when he was very young, so he was raised for the most part by his father, Nobiyuki. His life becomes interesting once he starts running into women from space.
      One day Tenchi's curiousity of the mysterious cave that he was never allowed to open got the better of him. Somehow he got the keys from his grandfather and unlocked the cave despite the warnings he recieved. What he found there was totally unexpected though, an actual demon (Ryoko). After their rough first encounter, she eventually decides to live with him and his father, along with Ayeka and Sasami who eventually get stranded on Earth.
      In the time he spent with the girls, he learns he is the crown prince to the thrown of Jurai, and that he is actually a descendant from that planet. Having royal blood in his veins enables him to activate a powerful sword, and also lets him use the special light-hawk wings.
      The title of the show, which means "No Need for Tenchi" in english, is appropriate, because poor Tenchi character isn't portrayed as much as most of the other people in the show. Everyone on the show seems to get more attention than he does, which is strange because he is the supposedly the main character of the series. Every female in the show is attracted to him, but i find him to be very average for an anime series, though he is a nice guy.
